Laguiole (pronounced la-YALL) is a type of knife that was originally a shepard's tool and weapon. The emperor Napoleon bestowed is emblem (the bee, symbol of industriousness) for its quality.
Unfortunatly the name Laguiole is public domain and has been abused and used for items that are not of the quality and sometimes not even related to the unique knives that made it famous. For your satisfaction, make sure that they are produced by a reputable manufacturer.
